WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT TENERIFE IN 2025/26

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, and whilst its white sandy beaches in the south of the island often steal the headlines, there is more than meets the eye. You’ll discover an island of extraordinary beauty and diversity, with remote mountain villages, ancient towns, and unique experiences.
In this guide, we reveal why you should go on holiday in Tenerife and why it is a must-visit destination in 2025/26.
A year-round destination
There is a reason why Tenerife is known as the “Island of Eternal Spring”, and that is because it boasts mild and consistent temperatures throughout the year, which range between 20-28°C.
These temperatures mean that Resorts in Tenerife are popular year-round, with both winter sun seekers and summer travellers looking to make the most of the perfect weather conditions.

Cat, the blogger behind the Flying Scots Girl site, says the weather makes it the perfect destination for a winter break: “When the mercury at home is hovering in the single digits and even pushing into negative numbers, Tenerife’s balmy weather is perfect for winter sun. It might not be as warm as it gets in the summer, but during our winter sun getaway, the temperature was still ideal for a spot of lazing in the sun with a good book.”
The incredible natural wonders
From volcanic landscapes to black and golden sand beaches, Tenerife boasts a plethora of natural wonders.
Teide National Park

Tenerife is home to the iconic Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak and one of the most stunning volcanic landscapes in the world.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a popular destination for hiking and stargazing. You can also take the famous cable car up to the top of the volcano to witness breathtaking views from above the clouds.
Renata, founder and editor of the Bye Myself travel blog, thinks Mount Teide is the highlight of Tenerife:
“Whether you get to the top hiking or if you opt for a ride on the cable car, Mount Teide is definitely a highlight of every visit to Tenerife.
“Mount Teide reminded me a bit of Mount Fuji. And not only due to the conical shape. There is something symbolic and mystic about both these mountains.
“Puerto da la Cruz, La Orotava, Icod de Los Vinos, El Médano – basically everywhere I went, I got a glimpse of Mount Teide. Sometimes, he was covered in snow; at times, he played peek-a-boo between the clouds. But he was always there, like a friendly giant watching over me.”
The beaches

Tenerife boasts various beaches, from the black volcanic sands of Playa Jardín to the golden sands of Playa de las Teresitas, where the sand has been imported from the Sahara Desert.
The island’s 40 miles of beaches are as varied as anywhere in the world, and no matter whether you’re looking for water sports or want to relax and sunbathe in the baking heat, there’s a beach to suit everyone.
Some of the top beaches in Tenerife are:
• Playa del Duque
• Playa de las Teresitas
• Playa del Camison
• Playa de la Tejita
• Playa Jardin
• Playa de las Vistas
Los Gigantes Cliffs

These cliffs are world-famous as they rise up dramatically to 600 meters above the sea and provide a stunning backdrop for boat trips, kayaking, or simply admiring from the shore.
As one of the most spectacular landscapes in Tenerife, the Los Gigantes cliffs are a must-visit during a holiday here. The natural monument is ideal for whale and dolphin watching and diving, whilst other attractions in the local area include a beautiful beach with natural pools.
Anaga Rural Park

Anaga is a highland of mountains with sharp peaks and deep ravines covered with carpets of trees. The park is accessible as it is less than an hour’s drive from La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the island capital, Santa Cruz.
Zoe, who is the writer behind the adventure and travel blog That Girl Outdoors, says she was blown away by the Anaga mountains:
“It is a protected natural landscape that is unspoiled and untouched and located on the Northern peninsula of Tenerife. It consists of rainforests, ravines, rugged coastlines, black sand beaches and remote villages. Some villages are so remote they are cut off from the main road.
“In 2015, UNESCO declared it a World Biosphere Reserve and is home to the largest number of endemic species in Europe. Surprisingly, it is said to have some of the most beautiful hiking trails in Europe. This was my favourite place to visit in Tenerife.”
Experience world-class stargazing

Tenerife is one of the best places in the world for stargazing, thanks to its low light pollution and clear skies.
Mount Teide National Park in the south of Tenerife has been crowned a “Starlight Destination”, and there is a plethora of tours that you can join, or you can visit the Teide Observatory to discover the wonders of the night sky.
You will not only see a vast variety of stars at Teide and constellations, but, using the telescope at the observatory, you will also get to know the deep sky, stories, and legends about the mythology.
A variety of activities
Tenerife might be small, but there is a diverse range of activities that you can enjoy, from outdoor pursuits to water sports.
Outdoor adventures

Tenerife is a paradise for hikers, with an array of walking trails crisscrossing the island. Some walks wind through forests, others are challenging treks up volcanic terrain, and others are easy walks along the coast.
Michal, a photographer and the writer behind the Hiking Is Good blog, thinks Tenerife is a perfect destination for walkers: “The Canary Islands are actually a goldmine when it comes to hiking, and Tenerife is no exception.
“It’s a pretty small island (just over 2000 km²), and yet jam-packed with microclimates that provide some of the most varied hikes in Europe. Alright, maybe I’m biased because I consider the Islands to be my spiritual home, but I don’t know anyone who’s been there and thinks otherwise.”
